Outbreak squad is an interactive game that teaches kids how to identify, treat, and prevent outbreak from food borne illnesses. There are four different categories of character skills to properly treat an outbreak! These characters broadly represent enforcement, education, healthcare, and research! Each character has a unique skillset that allows for combination tactics to help reduce, protect, and heal those from the outbreak! In between levels, different situations such as trust in science and government funding affect different character abilities causing students to think how to best approach the outbreak to avoid any deaths within the population. While this game is great and interactive, the focus is more on the points than what they represent. I think this in conjunction with additional health education would encourage the youth to engage with the material at a deeper level. This game is grade for middle school students as a way to understand health practices and their surrounding influences.

Outbreak Squad is a strategy game using action points to use the abilities of each squad member in order to increase understanding of how to effectively utilize each squad member for different types of outbreaks. The game was fun to play, and I would recommend it to others. I think that having a quick how-to-play/gameplay tutorial shown initially before starting the first level would be helpful for people to know the goals and mechanics of the outbreak; there is a gameplay tutorial at the bottom of the homepage, which may be skipped. The mechanics make sense and match the scientific concepts of identifying the pathogens, slowing outbreaks, and healing the sick people. I like how the events during the game and the outbreaks are based on real-world events. The content has the appropriate amount of information that should be easily understood by middle and high school students. I also appreciate the background information and professions listed for each member of the squad. I would recommend this game for students to play due to the balance of factual content portrayed in a fun format that is easy to understand.
